The N.Y. State Department of Health is investigating several cases of severe illness in children and child deaths which will be associated with COVID-19, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced yesterday.
There are 73 reported cases in ny where children are experiencing symptoms almost like Kawasaki disease and toxic shock-like syndrome, possibly thanks to COVID-19, the governor said. On Thursday a 5-year-old ny city slicker died from these COVID-related complications.
Cuomo said he has directed the Department of Health to figure with the CDC to develop a case definition for this illness to work out whether the remaining cases under investigation are definitively related to the syndrome.
The State Department of Health has issued an advisory about this serious disease , called “Pediatric Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome related to COVID-19,” to tell health care providers of the condition, also on provide guidance for testing and reporting.
